Brevard is situated in western North Carolina, about a 45 minute drive from the Asheville Regional Airport, or about an hour from South Carolina's Greenville/Spartanburg Airport. No mater "how" you get here, people find their way to Brevard for lots of different reasons. For many, it's the quieter mountain lifestyle that you can only find in a small town like Brevard. It's the kind of place that makes you feel right at home; where you can walk down Main Street and count on a smile and plenty of friendly conversation.
Brevard has also earned its reputation for the spectacular scenery and is a mecca for outdoor enthusiasts. The city is located in the heart of Transylvania County - aptly nicknamed, "Land of Waterfalls" because of the over 260

waterfalls that dot the landscape here, making it a beautiful and often dramatic backdrop for
hiking,
mountain biking, canoeing and kayaking. Whether you are looking for trails for
horse back riding, a heart
pounding hike, or a pleasant walk among the native laurels and
evergreens, you are sure to find it here. Over 50% of the land in Transylvania County is dedicated to the National Forest, including the
Pisgah National Forest, Dupont State Forest, and
Gorges State Park and each of them offer their own unique experience.
Our mountain streams and rivers also offer up some of the country's best and most scenic
fly fishing. The
French Broad River,
Davidson River,
East Fork French Broad, and
West Fork French Broad are just a few of the spots have fisherman from across the country hooked on the area.

For others, the Brevard area is special because of our unique
white squirrel. Not to be confused with the albino squirrel, legend has it that these unique and protected furry creatures first escaped from an overturned carnival truck some time in 1949 and eventually found their way into the wild here in Transylvania County. Visit us in May and you'll spot more than a few at the annual
White Squirrel Festival.
Still others enjoy the rich arts and entertainment choices. Among them is the famed
Brevard Music Center. At the
Brevard College,
Blue Ridge Community College, the County's brand new 35,000 square foot public library, and the variety of art galleries.
For most people, though, especially those who are discovering Brevard for the first time, it's the small town charm that makes this place so special. All you have to do is take a walk down Main Street and you'll be greeted with a smile and friendly conversation. With the vast array of outdoor activities, entertainment options, shopping, sight seeing and dining out, there are plenty of things to do here. But Brevard it's also the kind of place where you can enjoy year round southern hospitality, four distinct but gentle seasons, and a more relaxed mountain lifestyle.
Whether you are interested in relocating or simply looking for a vacation get-away in the mountains, we invite you to experience the Brevard area for yourself. Come for a visit and you might find that you never want to leave.
